Parents as Teachers
|
| The Parents as Teachers program
supports parents in their role as their child's first and most
important teacher. It is available to families expecting a child and
with children up to the age of three. Families receive a monthly visit
from a qualified Parent
Educator. During these visits parents learn about their child's
development and are introduced
to play activities to encourage this development. The ELC's Parents as Teachers program is affiliated with the PAT National Centre which has developed a curriculum incorporating the most recent neuroscience research on early development and learning; provides training for Parent Educators, and licences programs throughout Canada, the U.S. and six other countries. The opportunity to participate in group programs with other parents to share learning and experiences and to take part in parent-child activities is also available in this program. "I found it very informative about the various ways that a child can learn. I've always taken for granted that they would just "learn". I did not realize how much of a leading role I could take." |
