Literacy Programs Aboriginal PRINTS
(Parents Roles Interacting with Teacher Support). This program explores
talk and oral language, play, book and book sharing, drawing and
writing and environmental print (exploring symbols or print in the
world around us). Aboriginal PRINTS
integrates aboriginal philosophy, values, content and learning styles.
Four week parenting programs are held throughout the year which help parents develop positive parenting skills by providing information on non-violent discipline, understanding their child's level of development and finding positive ways to interact with their children. Women's Support Group This group meets regularly to provide women with the opportunity to explore common issues and concerns. Although the meetings are facilitated by Family Outreach staff, the group is actively involved in the planning.
"I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere... coffee, snack and visiting with other moms and the workers of the ELC. I got a sense of belonging and something to look forward to." Other events
include parent-child events such as a cultural fair,
clothing fairs and Christmas Party. Parents are also offered the
opportunity to participate in crafts or recreational activities
throughout the year. |
