KidsFirst is a program that assists families in becoming the best parents they can be, by providing support, enhancing knowledge and building on family strengths.

The Early Learning Centre is one of five Regina agencies which offers the home-visiting component  of  KidsFirst. Participation in the program is
voluntary. KidsFirst accepts expectant mothers or those with a child up to the age of one, who live in the Core, North Central, Al Ritchie or North East areas of Regina.  Families interested in participating in KidsFirst will receive a visit by a public health nurse to determine if they are eligible for the program.

KidsFirst is designed as an integrated program which offers families support in the following ways:
  • Regular home visits;
  • Advocacy, referrals to the food bank, assistance with transportation needs and access to parenting and support programs;
  • Links and referrals to community resources, including addictions counselling;
  • Early learning and care opportunities for children, including respite childcare, access to preschool programming and family literacy programming;
  • Assistance in meeting health and wellness needs of  parents and children.

Maximum enrollment is 60 families.

"The first visit we're getting to know each other, on successive visits we get to know each other better, by the end parents are talking about their problems, we have built a relationship, trust. It's important to show that you respect the family, and don't make judgements..."
