Early Learning Centre launches Capital Project
to acquire a permanent home

April 10 – This morning, with the help of honourary patron and artist Joe Fafard, staff, volunteers and students launched a 1.5 million dollar capital campaign to purchase, renovate and enhance the building occupied by the Early Learning Centre (ELC).

Along with the campaign launch, participants held a ceremony to transfer ownership of the building and over one acre of adjacent land from the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions to the ELC.

"I am honoured to be a part of this very worthy cause," said honorary patron Joe Fafard . "The work accomplished each year within this program illustrates the importance of early education and parental support in the development of our community's children... Early learning is essential to ensure that every child has an equal opportunity to benefit from their school years. This idea has proven itself. Let's go with it!''

The Centre has grown from very humble beginnings as a small community development project in 1977 in north central Regina. Its unique approach to early education and family support, coupled with the passion and vision of committed staff and volunteers, has allowed the Centre to flourish over the past 30 years.

The Early Learning Centre offers early education and family support services to inner city families. Charity Intelligence (see www.charity intelligence.ca) rated the ELC as one of the top nine community-based organizations in Canada last year.

The ELC program equalizes learning opportunities for inner city children and helps them get a strong start in school and in life. A special focus on family literacy, parent education and support helps to ensure the whole family benefits.
