Over time, the Centre’s Board and staff have worked together to articulate our core values: our beliefs about how children learn and how the Centre engages with children, families and the broader community.

We believe that:

  • All children have the right to grow and learn in a supportive environment sensitive to their needs.
  • A parent is a child’s first teacher.
  • A child’s view of the world is special and needs to be celebrated, supported and developed.
  • There is no such thing as a high-risk child, only high-risk circumstances that we, as a community, must work to change.
  • The community has a responsibility to support the healthy development of children and families.
  • Learning occurs within the context of supportive relationships.
  • Respect characterizes the relationships between staff, children and families.

Using a strength-based model empowers all participants. These values are congruent with an understanding of the rights of children. The UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Regina Children’s Charter ground the work of the Centre.

"Children need beauty. They need to be exposed to good quality artifacts and works of art as part of their aesthetic development. They need opportunities to wonder and marvel at the natural world as well as be surrounded by buildings that give a sense of permanence, even in our transitory world."from the OECD Report on Early Childhood Education in Canada
